US Residents Travelling to Canada - Documentation Required

The Canadian folk are friendly, but they're still going to want to see proper documentation for entry into the country. Please consult the information and handy links below to make sure you are prepared for your trip to Canada.

Getting into Canada:

Americans are not required to carry passports to enter Canada and may present alternate photo identification. Read more about admissibility to Canada.

Getting back to the US:

As of June 1, 2009 all persons entering the US either by land, sea or air must present a passport, passport card or other travel document approved by the Department of Homeland Security.

So even though you may not need your passport to get into Canada, you will likely need it to get home so you'll want to bring it along. Read more about admissibility to the United States.
