Focus on Whistler Mountain
|Best afternoon run and lift||Bear Paw and Tokum are mostly shaded and lightly skied making for good afternoon skiing. Save energy for your end of day Peak to Creek run. If you were not tired before, you will be at the end of this run. If you still have energy, you can go up the Gondola and do the Dave Murray Downhill one more time.|
|Best lunch strategy||Find your table in the Roundhouse by 11:20. Multiple food outlets offer Asian, Italian, traditional grilled food, vegetarian options and lots more. After 11:20 try Chick Pea. After 11:45, take the Peak to Peak to Rendezvous or Glacier Lodge on Blackcomb for lunch.|
|Best morning run and lifts||Ski Harmony early. Crowds arrive around 10:30. Big Red is always good and a great warm up. Garbanzo is the hidden gem with never a lift line. Ski down Dave Murray to Bear Paw or Tokum.|
|Best photo op||As you exit the Peak Chair or the Seventh Heaven Chair, Black Tusk provides a spectacular background for your group photo.|
|Best place to park||In our free underground parking.|
|Tips 4 quick & easy access to the lifts in the AM||Stay at Creekside! We have no lift lines all day!|
Food and Beverage
|Best place for breakfast/brunch||Waffles at the Crystal Hut on Blackcomb or the delightful cinnamon buns at Chick Pea.|
|Best place to drink coffee and surf the net!||On our patio.|
|Best table where you will find a view!||Rendevous lodge on Blackcomb Mountain.|
|Favorite Pub/Bar||Dusty's has live music every night during the ski season. But the locals go to Roland's Creekside Pub. Kids are welcome at both until 8p. Nita Lake Lodge is the best summer patio bar with heaters and blankets if it is cool.|
|Favorite up-scale restaurant||The Rock Creek Cafe is by far the best in Whistler. Reservations are mandatory.|
For Skiers and Boarders Only
|Best ways to find out about weather and snow||Conditions can be viewed on the Whistler website or by calling 604 932 4211.|
|My top skiing/boarding tips for visitors||Ski Blackcomb Glacier at least once. Take the Crystal Chair back up to avoid the miles long cat track.|
My Money Saving Tips
|Cheapest times to come to Whistler||Fall and spring are great skiing and discounts are available on lift tickets and lodging.|
|My biggest money saving tips||The Whistler Blackcomb EDGE card provides significant savings on lift tickets, rentals, lessons and food in the ski lodges for Canadian and Washington residents. See the WB website for details.|
The Drive to Whistler
|My safety tips for drivers new to Hwy 99||This is an excellent road with $800 million in improvements reducing the drive from West Vancouver to Whistler to about 80 minutes. Watch for cyclists and bears in summer.|
|Where to get the best views||The views are continuous and spectacular. Don't be the driver if you like to look at the views. This road is good, but requires your attention at all times.|
The Not So Obvious Types of Tips!
|Recommended winter clothing||Whistler has 1500 meters ( 5000 feet) of vertical. For example: that means temperatures can vary 8C or 18F peak to base. See the WB website for typical monthly temperatures. Layers are the key. More at the top, less at the bottom. Dry conditions at the top, less so at the bottom. Parkas and ski pants that have ventilation zips are great. Bag storage is available at the huts outside the Roundhouse and Rendevous Lodges.|
Frequently Asked Questions
Driving to Whistler
|I've heard the road to Whistler can be challenging?||British Columbia recognized that the road between Horseshoe Bay and Whistler was substandard and has dedicated one billion dollars to upgrades. The road has seen substantial improvements cutting a half hour off the two hour drive. The road is now excellent and is well maintained. Like any mountain highway care is required during inclement weather. The views along Howe Sound are spectacular.|
|Is the snow quality as variable as I've read?||Yes. A typical ski area only has 500 meters of vertical and the snow will be of similar quality top to bottom. Whistler has 1500 meters of vertical and is the largest ski area in North America. That means that there can be three or four different climate zones. The driest, coldest snow will be at the top. Fortunately, one can stay on top all day. There are lodges and lifts to support all your needs without returning to the base. December through March skiing is excellent top to bottom.|
|Does Whistler groom its slopes daily?||The busiest slopes and trails are groomed every day. All trails and slopes except the expert bowls and chutes are groomed every other day.|
Privately owned lodging
|Isn't it risky renting from private owners?||We have rented private homes worldwide for ourselves and it has never been a problem. We use Alluradirect to handle our secure credit transactions. This protects your credit info. We never see any of your credit information. You always have recourse if we don't deliver a satisfactory accommodation.|
|Why don't we bill you for the combined 10% hotel and resort tax?||Managers of multiple units are required to charge the 5% GST plus the 5% HST tax. We do charge the 5% GST.|
Restaurants & Groceries
|Are there restaurants at Creekside?||There are 8 restaurants within 3 minutes walk of the Lodge. These include Rolands Pub (kids until 8 PM), Dustys for barbeque and live music (families can dine and watch from the balcony after 8pm), Southside Diner for burgers and grilled foods, Samurai Sushi the best sushi restaurant in Whistler, Creekbread (organic pizza) and takeout traditional pizza from Avalanche. The Rock Creek Cafe (10 minute walk or 5 minute drive towards the Village), the Red Door Bistro and the Nita Lake Lodge Aura restaurant are all excellent, upscale, reservations required and intimate. Rounding out the lower end are Subway and Boston Pizza.|
|Are the grocery stores nearby?||There is an excellent, but small market within 2 minutes walk open from 8AM to 8PM everday and has an excellent assortment of groceries including fresh fruits, bakery, vegetables and meats. There is also a deli in the store.|
|Where can I get my latte and a scone?||Starbucks is the place, just across the street. Limited seating, but there is usually space except around the gondola opening and closing times.|
|Can I get to Whistler without a car?||Perimeter and Greyhound coaches (about $90 round trip for adults) run several times each day and stop near the front entrance to LK Placid Lodge. There are vans ($350 one-way), limousine ($500 and up one-way) and helicopter ($1800 each way for 4) services from Vancouver. Expensive, but you get the whole vehicle unlike the coaches. All except the helicopter take about 2 hours from Vancouver International Airport.|
|Where is the train station?||The train station is located three blocks from Lake Placid Lodge. Unfortunately it only runs in the summer.|
|How hard is it to get around Whistler without a car?||The local WAVE #1 & #2 (Creekside) buses run about every ten minutes during the day and 15 minutes in the evening until 3 AM for those late nights out. The cost is $2.50 exact change on the bus and free for up to three children under age 12 with each adult. Ski and bike racks on every bus. In the summer, the main village is about ten minutes bike ride and 30 minutes on foot on the Valley Trail system. There are taxis available around $15 per ride. Let them know if you are hauling gear and they will bring a suitable taxi.|
|How hard is it to get to Blackcomb?||It takes 12 minutes using the WAVE shuttle bus or 10 minutes riding the Creekside Gondola up and 10 minutes skiing down to the Blackcomb Gondola. More fun this way. Or 20 minutes up Creekside and Big Red to the Peak to Peak gondola and then 11 minutes to Rendevous.|
|What free summer activites are there?||There is a swimming beach with a playground about ten minutes walk down LK Placid Drive next to the train station. Valley Trails start here and biking, roller blading and walking are allowed. The system is about 20 Kilometers long and ends near Green Lake. Hiking the mountains is popular with Garbaldi Provincial Park bordering Whistler.|
My kids are bored
|My kids are bored, what next?||There is always the pool at Lk Placid Lodge and the large lobby with comfortable couches and a lot of running around space. And there is climbing toy next to the grocery store that is popular with the smaller kids. For bigger kids there is a multi-plex cinema in the Village showing first run movies including several rated for kids. A indoor rock climbing facility can be found in the Village too. Maybe the kids need a day away from the parents, try "Whistler Kids" across the street.|
|What else is there to do at Whistler?||Ice skating, swimming pool for laps, squash and a fitness center are available at the Meadow Park Sports Center. Public skating on most afternoons and some Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturday evenings. And minor league hockey games for the sports fans. Call 604 935 7529 for info.|
We are avid skiers living and working in Washington State. Our condominium is privately owned and we decided to share our ski place with guests who are looking for a more personal experience than hotels can offer. We selected our vacation home based on its access to the mountain and the less commercial atmosphere of Creekside. Creekside is the original home of the Garibaldi Lift Company, the first lifts on Whistler Mountain and the 2010 Olympic and ParaOlympic Alpine events.

Great Holiday Location
Cheryl from Victoria, Canada
Date: Aug-08-2016 for a stay in Jul 2016
We had another great holiday at Lake Placid Resort. Our suite was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen was fully stocked and had everything we needed. We loved the ground floor suite so we could walk directly to the pool and barbeque area. Creekside village has all amenities within walking distance. There are hiking trails, bike trails, walking trails, a park and several lakes close by. There are so many things to do at Creekside, you could be busy every day without even going to Whistler Village. We can't wait to come back again.View Full Review
Perfect stay in Whistler for a couple
Catriona from Edinburgh, United Kingdom
Date: Aug-04-2016 for a stay in Jul 2016
We loved our stay at the condo. The apartment itself was quiet, spacious, comfy and well eqiupped with the pool/BBQ/hot tub area was just outside the back door.
There is a really good grocery store just across the road and we were very happy to not be in the main Whistler village itself as it was much quieter in Creekside.
We would definitely recommend this as a place to stay in the summer months and if we were ever to go back we'd happily stay there again.View Full Review

4 night stay during spring break
Hazel from Vancouver, Canada
Date: Mar-18-2016 for a stay in Mar 2016
Location was perfect for our family of 4 ski trip for 4 nights. It was a cozy unit with a well stocked kitchen for preparing meals.
The unit was a tad lean on housekeeping/amenities. We only had a 1/4 roll of TP that didn't last us our 1st night so had to run out and grab some. We only had 4 towels so another set would have been nice considering we were in the pool/hot tub each night as well. We would have gladly done a load of towels but the washer/dryer combo wasn't suitable for that. Lastly, after a long day of skiing it's sometimes nice to kick back and watch a bit of TV but there was only basic channels with no kids or sports channels. These are all just minor things that didn't negatively impact our 1st stay at Creekside.View Full Review

Cute, clean and we LOVED it!!!
Marissa from Vancouver, Canada
Date: Jul-23-2015 for a stay in Jul 2015
Loved our stay! One of my girlfriends and I stayed in the suite this past July for four nights and were absolutely pleased with it! The suite was very clean and tidy. The kitchen was stocked with lots of cooking utensils, pots and pans, spices etc for cooking and everything labeled accordingly. There was even ice already frozen in the freezer for our drinks when we arrived! Perfect.
There were extra linens/pillows for the pull out couch if you had extra guests staying with you. Like other reviewers said - it is kind of close in quarters, but if you are close with who you are staying with its wont bother you, or if it's two adults and two children. Speaking of kids, the pool and hot tub area are maybe a mere 20 steps from the balcony door. We loved this! (Nice for the adults too!) There are no glass bottles allowed in the pool area but the kitchen has cute plastic glasses for your convenience.
It was SUPER hot when we were staying there and when the sun hits the windows it gets toasty in the condo, but thankfully there were two fans to cool us down. The bed was comfy, the pillows were comfy, even though we had brought our own. Also, if you get bored there are board games, books and DVD's to entertain you. It is suuuuper close to a grocery store and a gas station. Those are the only places we explored.
All in all, we would 100% recommend this suite for anyone. The owners replied very quickly and were very accommodating :)View Full Review

The owner was very helpful with accommodating a request upon checkout and the location is perfect. I've rented in Whistler many times and this place was by far the most convenient with groceries right across the street and lots of restaraunts within a 5 min walk. Was a great spot in the summer and would be even better for winter because it's so close to the creekside gondola.View Full Review

This unit truly had everything required for a comfortable stay, particularly if you are only 2 people. It did, however, feel rather tight once our daughter arrived. I would recommend just a quick go-through by the owners prior to new tenants arriving as there were pillows without pillow cases, potato chip crumbs on the window seat, and no blanket (other than the coverlet) on the main bed. These are, however, very minor matters and we were able to work things out in short order.
The hot tub is practically right outside the door and very clean. I would have liked a tiny patio set on the walkout, but then that may have been asking too much. There were indeed tables and chairs in the public pool area.
All in all, I would recommend these accommodations as having "everything you really need".View Full Review Owner Has Responded
Comfy and reasonably priced, directly across from creekside gondola

One of us was a bit under the weather, so the ability to pop in and out from the slopes, as needed, and the efficiency in the morning were both highly appreciated, as were the kitchen (with dishwasher), little high efficiency, euro-style washer/dryer, etc. Closet and drawer space is adequate but not generous--plenty for two, but if you've also got a couple of kids on the fold-out, don't over-pack, or don't expect to hang/shelve everything. The relevant bus stops (both for travel to and from vancouver, and trips to and from the main Whistler village) were "right next" as well. Owners are responsive to questions and to reasonable requests, too. The door code was "as explained" (based on one of our telephone numbers) but was not the number actually printed on the page, but except for the 20 seconds of consternation as we figured that out, every aspect of the stay was very smooth. There are plenty of slots but not much elbow room in the shared ski room, and the ski locks could already use a repair/upgrade--some look to have been busted out (and one always wonders how and why). Signs clearly state that skis should not enter the main lodge, but some of the people with fancier skis seemed to be cleaning them well and bringing them to their rooms, all the same. As to true basics, the hot water is hot, the hot tub denizens are congenial, the bed is comfy, the slope access is fast. There were none of the mystery drips, leaks, noises or flashing lights that sometimes plague vacation rentals.
Straightforward, comfortable condo

The condo was as described - comfortable; ground floor location; very near the Creekside Gondola Station. The bed was very comfortable and we slep extraordinarily well after a full day's skiing. Bathroom facilities were good. Midweek cleaning and provision of clean linen was excellent. Having the outdoor hot tub and heated swimming pool were terrific for tired limbs and we used them almost every evening. The grocery store seemed expensive to us from the UK but supplied the necessaries. We made a trip to the Main Village to buy groceries where they seemed to be a bit cheaper. Little things like the use of ski locks being included were a bonus. All in all a very good experience for our first time visiting Whistler.
Great Location, Excellent Price

Perfect location for skiers. Excellent pricing relative to others even in the same building. Could use a bit more attention to the proper functioning of the hot tub (was cold one night).

The one bedroom condo is in an ideal location, and has all the amenities for our 2 week stay. The lifts and shops are 50 yards away. It is very well equipped, and a quiet location. Lynne and Dave
