The Mornington House is a large (5,200 sq/ft) luxurious family home that has been totally renovated and extended for the 2011 season. It covers all three floors of an iconic Victorian-styled house. Check out the floor plans and the 360degree tour at

For extended families and large adult groups we offer you our cozy home for your perfect vacation. It is fitted out as our second home, rather than a rental unit, with luxury furnishings, artworks and equipment, so we ask that guests respect this. 

It has direct ski access to the Knoll skiway from the rear decks, or via the skiway by the house next door. But if you fancy staying at home, this is a home where you will feel totally comfortable. We have added NetFlix, a PS/3 plus an Infrared Sauna, as well as underfloor heating for the 2011 season.

With 8 full bedrooms (5 are en-suites), there are no pullout beds or sofa-beds - up to 20 guests all sleep in bedrooms. There are 7 bathrooms, 2 hot-tubs, 2 kitchens and 4 living-rooms, so you can have all the comfort and privacy you need for the perfect vacation.

There are fantastic views, and you have an internal garage plus parking for 5-6 cars in the driveway.

For stays of over 6 nights; rates include linen change and 4 hours housekeeping every 4th day.

Rates are for the whole house (8 bedrooms  = max 20 guests).


Please email the owner to get rates for renting just the main house (6 bedrooms = 14 guests) or the suite (2 bedrooms = 6 guests) which can be rented independently.

Please note in summer there is a one-off $105 fee to set up each hot tub

Property Description

Mornington offers 5,100 sq/ft of luxury space over three floors of this Victorian-themed house. Double interconnecting doors in the lower level next to the Den join the 2-bedroom Mornington Suite, which with Mornington Main sleeps 20 in total in the whole house. The Main or Suite can also be rented seperately - please ask for rates.

The 8 bedrooms are configured as 2 Queen suites (Upper floor Front and Rear Masters), 3 queen bedrooms each with en-suite, plus 3 bedrooms with bunks.

You have two kitchens and four separate living rooms in addition to the Den (2 sofas), the huge Main Kitchen/Diner (2 sofas) and the Front Master Bedroom en-suite sitting area (1 sofa). There are 2 full laundry rooms each with washer/drier.

The two decks each have a private hut-tub with AWESOME views of the Monashees. There is also an infra-red sauna.

The house has been fully renovated and almost everything is new for 2010/11.

Sleeping Areas & Beds

You can sleep 20 in beds - we do not have any pullouts of sofabeds and nobody has to sleep in the living-room!

The rear master bedroom can easily become a private suite as there is a sliding door in the entry to this bedroom and the adjoining rear living-room.

Wonderful views of trees to the front. Sofa sitting area going through to huge bathroom with double shower and jet-tub bath. Great views from the bath! TV/DVD viewable from bed and sofa.

There are two kitchens, one on the lower suite level and one on the ground floor. Both are totally new for 2010/11.

The huge Main kitchen has plenty of storage as well as a walk-in larder with 2nd fridge. The cooks will love the new induction hob, 36" fan oven, dishwasher and 2 large fridges. We use the house as our family home in summer, so there are all the bowls, pots, pans, utensils, dishes, glasses etc.. you should need.

Seating comprises an island with 4 bar-stools, a custom breakfast table seating 8... as well as 2 large sofas and ottoman with coffee table overlooking the skiway and Monashees -  perfect for a good book and a coffee!

The lower kitchen has fridge, large electric oven, hob, dishwasher and dining area for 6.

There are four (yes four!) separate living rooms for your comfort and privacy.

The Main rear living/dining room has log fire, 3 leather sofas + designer chair & ottoman. On a raised level is the custom pine dining table for 12.

The Main front living-room has 2 sofas, designer chair & ottoman. Desk with printer and TV/DVD.

Rear upstairs living-room has 2 sofas and 42" HD TV with NETFLIX & DVD. It can be closed off with recessed sliding doors to make a private suite with Bedroom 4.

The lower floor suite has a comfy living area with new sofas and TV+DVD

The basement bedroom/den also has 2 sofas and TV

Hidden at the top of the Knoll, Mornington occupies a large plot with unblocked views to the rear over the Monashees. The sunrises are awesome from the rear deck!

You can ski out the back to the ski-way or walk from the front 40 yards to the ski-way just next door.

There is parking at front for 4-6 cars and one private garage for guests.

The ski shuttle bus stops 20 yards from our drive.

Guest Stay Policies

Check-In Time 4 pm. Ask us if the house is available earlier. A charge is made for arrival before 12am
Check-Out Time 10 am. Ask us if the house is available later. A charge is made for departure after 4pm
Complaints Concerning Property Report all property complaints or obvious damage caused by previous Guests to us immediately, by phone and by email as they become evident. Serious problems should be reported with supporting photographs. We will make our best efforts to rectify problems within 24 hours of notification. Failure to notify us of property-related problems while in the property and as they become evident, will forfeit any rights or claims against us regarding property condition after your departure.
Excessive Noise This is a family-oriented, quiet neighbourhood. Please be considerate and make no noise after 10pm. Noise complaints may result in eviction with no refund. Please remember noise in teh hot-tub carries, so is not permitted after 10pm
Housekeeping 2 hours per day cleaning is included; in addition, guests staying 4 nights or more have a change of towels and bedsheets every 4th day. You can pay locally for additional services
Liability Please take out your insurance. By paying rental, guests releases property owners from any liability for theft death or injury while in transit to the property, in the property or not, for any reason

Maximum Sleeping Capacity 20. Additional persons will result in immediate eviction. Owner also reserves the right to reverse the reservation within 24 hours of booking.

Local Tips

About Us

We are a family with 3 teenage kids now living in Singapore. We fell in love with SilverStar after many years skiing Whistler, and bought Mornington as a large but neglected 'victorian' family house in 2003. Note it is the central house in the classic SilverStar brochure! Since then we have spent time there every year - both in winter and summer. We love the skiing and relaxed friendly village life. Summers are blissful as well!

We have renovated the house continuously over the past 5 years, and it is now finished! We have enclosed much of the old covered deck that surrounded the house to make more space and make if lighter and more spacious inside.

For 2010-11 there is a huge new main-floor kitchen with a new side entry and boot room, new underfloor heating and a new rear deck with sauna.

Downstairs we have added a new dining area, laundry room and en-suite bathroom to transform the master bedroom. Come stay in our home!!

The Mornington is truly a special home. This was the first time our group of 16 visited SilverStar and booked at the Mornington, and we found it to the be best place we have ever stayed at. The house is furnished as a home, rather than a rental suite. All the beds, furnishing and decoration are tasteful and upscale. There is plenty of dishes, cups, mugs, cutlery - and they all match! The best thing is the number of bathrooms - no more than 3 of us had to share a bathroom. We had both the upper and lower unit and loved the sauna! There was plenty of room to cook together and share meals in the large kitchen and dining room. We also loved the number of small living rooms that made it easy to have some quiet time away from the larger group. The living rooms have nice comfortable sofas - not sofa beds, so you are not tempted to use them as beds and cram more people into the home. The home is spacious, well appointed and well cared for. The owner, Ian, is very responsive as is Scarlet, the manager. In fact, they made special arrangements to show us Mornington in the spring when we were in the area. Scarlet answers her phone and comes by if anything is needed. The skiing was fabulous - both x-country and alpine. Ski out is marvellous and ski-in requires a moderate walk or the frequent shuttle bus from the village. We definitely will be back! We are breaking with tradition and returning to SilverStar and Mornington.
