Whistler Blackcomb will be using the same RFID technology introduced this winter season to include timed hikes. In the same way guests were able to access chairlifts and gondolas hands free, the same technology will be put in place to scan your pass at the trail head and set-off a time so that your entire hike is tracked. I’ve you’ve ever done the Grouse Grind in North Vancouver, it works the same way. (Feature Photo: Photo: Su-Laine)
According to the Whistler Blackcomb VP of Business and Development, Rob McSkimming;”You’ll pass by the gate, a green light will go on so you’ll know that you’re being recorded, and away you go.” Your hike time and ranking will be accessible online. There will be three timing points; Whistler Peak, at the top of the Emerald Chair and Blackcomb Mountain near the Peak 2 Peak Terminal.
The timed trails are available on for Whistler Blackcomb guests with a 360 Experience Pass. This summer pass is valid from May to October, and will give you access to the world record holding Peak 2 Peak gondola and various hiking trails on both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. An adult pass costs $69.95 and will also provides access to the Samsung Alpine Theater at the Roundhouse Lodge, and the Peak 2 Peak viewing Gallery.
Whistler Blackcomb is open for summer sightseeing beginning May 23. You can take the brand new Whistler Village Gondola to head up to Whistler Mountain, and the Peak 2 Peak, or the Peak Chair. Or enjoy the nice mountain breeze and head up Blackcomb Mountain’s open air chairlifts; Wizard Express or Solar Coaster, then take the 7th Heaven Chairlift to access the Alpine.
