AlluraDirect.com is a Vancouver-based vacation rental property marketing, software and consulting company. We help 800+ homeowners independently manage their vacation home rentals.

We currently specialize in BC and Quebec ski resorts. We are among the largest accommodation web sites in Whistler, Big White & Sun Peaks, BC.

We are passionate about serving our guest and owner clients with superior solutions and services that help them have more fun, time and confidence. We provide customer support 7 days per week to our owners and to guests searching, viewing and booking vacation homes.

We are a small but growing company. We have been in business since 1997 and have 12-full time employees aged 23- 44, including an in-house programming department.

The Opportunity

We have a part time paid student internship available to someone who has recently started a post secondary program in one of the following areas:

  • communications
  • writing
  • marketing
  • business administration
  • or any fields related to the above.

Candidates must be seeking part time work and training that will complement and strengthen their education and skills, but not interfere with their studies. You will work weeknights, weekends and statutory holidays.

We recently hired two of our interns on a full time basis upon their university graduation. We can’t promise you a full time job at graduation, but we do guarantee that your resume will reflect proven and visible accomplishments that will impress your fellow graduates and future employers.

About You

  • You are seriously interested in a marketing, online writing, communications or business administration-related career.
  • You are about to start, or have just completed one to two years of a communications-related, writing, marketing, business administration, computer or related degree or diploma.
  • You have 2 - 4 years of school left to complete, to get the most out of the internship.
  • You are interested in staying in the right part time job for a minimum of 2 years.
  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • You can’t survive without the Internet in your personal or professional life.
  • You avidly participate in social media outlets such as facebook, twitter and may have your own blog.
  • You are obsessively organized.
  • You have excellent internet browsing and Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Basic html knowledge or attribute recognition is an asset but not a requirement.
  • Basic image management and design skills are an asset but not a requirement.

 

Responsibilities & Skills Development

Your working internship with AlluraDirect.com will give you the skills to perform the following tasks within our business:

  • Provide customer support to guests using our site to find and book accommodation, and to owners using our proprietary web-based software.
  • Assist our marketing and owner relations groups with research, strategy development, report generation and analysis.
  • Assist in web page planning, production, copywriting, performance measurement and optimization for search engine positioning and sales conversion.
  • Participate in ad writing and performance measurement.
  • Participate in article and press release production.
  • Participate in software usability analysis and testing.

Your internship training and job tasks will evolve with your experience and skills. By the end of your internship, you will have a portfolio of work that will showcase your skills in internet marketing and copywriting.

Job Details

  • $13.50 (including 4% vacation pay) per hour to start - with increases based on skill, performance, energy and initiative.
  • Weeknights, weekends and statutory holidays - you must be available for all shifts. This is a non-negotiable requirement.
  • Must be willing to work at least 2 shifts per week.
  • A 2-year commitment is preferable, but not required. (You can leave at any time if you are unhappy).
  • Start: August 2008

Hours

Weeknight, weekend and statutory holiday shifts.  Shifts range from 6 to 7 hours in length.

  • Weeknights: Monday to Wednesday, 4pm to 11pm (later start at 5pm is possible)
  • Thursday - Sunday & Stat holidays:
    • Morning shift: 9am to 4pm
    • Afternoon shift: 4pm to 11pm

You will also attend two 4 hour training sessions each month. You will be paid for all of your training time.

Statutory Holidays:

You must be available to work on all statutory holidays, including Christmas and New Years. You will not have to work all of them, but you must be available to work any of them. You will know which statutory holidays you will be working with at least 3 months advance warning.

Detailed Skills & Job Development Description

August 2008-March 2009:

You will receive extensive basic customer support training will get you up and running in no time. You will also learn our business fundamentals and logistics.  Throughout the fall and winter, you will provide extensive, real life customer support to destination skiers and our homeowner clients. During this time, you will begin recognizing customer groups and their typical behaviours, identifying what is working and what is not on our web site, and reporting on progress to our business development, customer support and software groups. By the end of this session, you will have a very clear perspective on our customer behaviour, motivations, needs and attitudes.

April 2009-August 2009:

During our off-season, your customer support calls and emails will decrease substantially. During this much slower time and with a new found in-depth understanding of customer behaviour, you will learn the fundamentals of online copywriting and web page production. You will participate in helping us improve and update our communications and web site content. You will also learn how to optimize web pages for both readers and search engines, thereby increasing results and growth. You will also participate in expanding marketing opportunities thorough various social media outlets.  You extensive real life customer support experience coupled with what you will learn in this session will also give you a strong understanding of persona-based web design and writing. By the end of the summer, you will be producing your own web pages that will contribute heavily to our business. Your resume will become a long list of accomplishments about how your skills produced financial results for a real company.

September 2009 - April 2010:

Armed with a whole new set of skills and insight, you will provide customer support to our site users and owners during our busiest time of the year and the busiest event - the Olympics! You will quickly recognize our company’s web site personas and have a better understanding of how to verbally and literally communicate with them. You will also be monitoring the performance of the web pages you produced, and benchmarking them against those produced by our staff. Are they working or not? If not, you will work on tweeking them under our expert guidance. By the end of this session, your customer experience have you very excited about getting to work on expanding our marketing, content and business development.

May 2010-August 2010:

Most of your non-customer support time this summer will be consumed with content research and web page production, optimization and analysis under the watchful guidance of our staff. You will also learn advanced ad writing techniques and apply them to pay per click marketing and link campaigns. Finally, you will learn how to write effective press releases and online articles that produce results. By the end of this session, you will have a very clear understanding of basic off-site strategies and techniques that drive business leads to a web site.

 

September 2010-May 2011

In your last customer support session you will be fine tuning your calls and emails, based on your vast research and experience and participate in pay per click ad writing, press releases and article production. By the end of this session, you will have a portfolio of online articles and press releases, as well as pay per click case studies to showcase. You will also be looking for a full time job once you have graduated from school. Hopefully it will be with us!
