February 2010 Fernie Events

February 6 -7  Junior Freeski Competition
Watch as the 18 and under show how big of a mountain Fernie really is. Age categories will include 7-11 years, 12-15 years, and 16-18 years of age for both guys and gals. Competitors will warm up Saturday in the qualifying runs. Sunday to be finals and award ceremony. Helmets are mandatory.

February 13  Helly Hansen Big Mountain Battle (1st Annual)
Teams of two tackle a rigorous course throughout the mountain designed by Chris Davenport. Wearing GPS technology to verify the route taken, the winning team will win a trip to the finals.

February 17 - 21  Senior Freeski Competition (7th Annual)
Athletes will be challenged by Fernie Alpine Resort’s terrain and legendary powder in the 7th annual Fernie Freeski.

February 27 - 28   Labatt White-Out
Join in for a fun-filled weekend featuring live music! The plaza & Griz Bar will be the place to be to enjoy live music, beer gardens, & fun all weekend long!

March 5 - 8   Griz Days Winter Festival (33rd Annual)
A celebration of Snow in Fernie! Parade, pancake breakfast, scavenger hunt, craft fair & so much more going on in the City of Fernie during the Annual Griz Days Festival.

March 7  Dummy Downhill Competition
A highlight of Fernie’s winter Griz Days festival. Strictly for fun, this competition features imaginative & hilarious dummies on skis launching themselves off a gigantic jump beside the Timber Chair! FUN, EVENTS & SNOW MUCH MORE!

March 13 - 14  Powder Power (1st Annual)
A weekend of fun celebrating the steep and deep including live music Saturday night at the Griz, pictures taken with the "Powder Puff Girls" or maybe if your lucky enough you will track down the Griz himself!

March 13  Powder 8 Championships
Skier's pair up to make perfect figure 8's in untracked POWDER snow. Competitors will be judged on their skiing synchronization, distance spacing and style as well as their track roundness, symmetry and fall line.

March 20   Monster Energy Ultimate Rock Band (2nd Annual)
Get ready for "Rockstar" treatment at Fernie Alpine Resort with musical festivities & lots of fun for everyone. Rock it out in the “Front Row” Plaza and on the “Backstage” Deck listening to music and enjoying fun rocker antics all day and night. Come sip on a Rockstar energy drink sample and enjoy a live DJ spinning while fun games and contests such as "Best Rocker Hair" & "Best Rock Star Holla" challenges take place during the day in the plaza. And in traditional rock star style, the party will continue in the famous Griz Bar where the Ultimate Rockies' Rock Band contest will take place followed by rocking the night out with live music. Take the challenge and bring your Rock Band team and battle it out for the Ultimate Rockies' Rock Band title! Win great prizes and have a rockin' time at Fernie's Ultimate Rockies' Rock Band event. FREE team entry to the Ultimate Rockies' Rock Band Contest.

March 27 - 28   Fernie's Got Talent Family Event (1st Annual)
Everyone is invited to participate in family friendly events all weekend. Come out and watch while kids 12 and under compete for awards in "Most Talented", and show off their dogs talents. The whole family can compete for the prized "Best Family Snow Fort" in the Sunday fort building competition. Each family can only bring a sign or flag to mark their creation but no other pre-built structures will be allowed.

April 2010 Fernie Events

April 4   The Great Easter Egg Hunt
Kids...come see if you can find what the Easter Bunny has left behind! Meet in the back of the daylodge at 10am and then go out and search for chocolate eggs in the base plaza area! This a FREE family event!

April 10   Powder, Pedal, Paddle (27th Annual)
Another locals favourite – the PPP has been going strong since 1984! Teams of 1-5 people ski, bike, paddle & run in a fun (yet competitive!) relay race. Followed by a great dinner for all competitors & an after party for competitors 19+, this is the perfect season ender!

April 11  Closing Day of 2009/2010 Season

April 17 - 18  Fernival (2nd Annual) & BONUS WEEKEND!!
The 2nd Annual "Fernival" spring event at Fernie Alpine Resort featuring live music. This will be a celebration of snow and a tribute to a fantastic ski season. This spring will feature live music, DJ's and all kinds of wacky, innovative and fun events for all skiers and snowboarders to enjoy!
