Whistler’s Ironman Canada Triathlon Nearly Sold Out
It’s been only a couple of weeks since Whistler won the right to host Ironman Canada for five years, starting in 2013, but already the Ironman triathlon is nearly sold out. With an expected field between 2,000 to 2,500 competitors, Ironman Canada only has a few hundred spots remaining for next year’s event in Whistler.
The Ironman Canada course has not been confirmed yet, however, organizers have confirmed that the start of the race will begin at Rainbow Park. Located on the Northwest side of Alta Lake, participants will begin the Ironman triathlon with a 3.8km swim through Alta Lake before completing the remaining two legs of the 180km bike ride and 42.2km marathon run. The Ironman Canada race director and other event planners have been in the Whistler Blackcomb resort planning and coordinating next year’s event with the BC Ministry of Transportation.
Triathlon Athletes Training in Whistler For Ironman Canada
The Ironman Canada team and other event organizers for the Whistler Ironman triathlon hope to have more details to share on the course design in the coming months. Organizers know that there is urgency for the participants planning to compete in the Whistler Ironman Canada event because many of them visit the host city well in advance of the competition to prepare for the big the day. That includes specific Ironman triathlon training with local companies or local running groups.
For vacation rentals in Whistler, this event is not only great news for the weekend of the event, but throughout the spring and summer months. Participants will be visiting the resort more to prepare for Ironman Canada on August 25th, 2013. Owners, if you haven’t already set your spring and summer rates for 2013, now would be a good time to do so.
