In recent years, Whistler Blackcomb has increasingly seen record after record fall from early season snowfalls and this year is no different as the weather in Whistler is on track to break the mountain’s record for the largest snow base this early in the season. In the first four days of December, Whistler Blackcomb has received 134 centimeters of snow, or 4.4 feet. Since the official opening day, nearly two weeks ago, Whistler Blackcomb has received more than 337cm of snow, with an expected 33cm in the forecast over the next four days.
The Senior Vice-President of Sales and Marketing at Whistler Blackcomb, Stuart Rempel, said in a press release that the mountain is on track for another record setting year with a snow base of 185 cm – the highest snow base over the last 10 years for this point in the season. “It’s also 50 cm more snow than what our base was last year at this time,” Stuart said.
Blackcomb Mountain Alpine To Open Saturday…
Between the weather in Whistler and the current snow conditions, Whistler Blackcomb is expecting to open Blackcomb Mountain’s alpine this Saturday, Dec. 8, for the first time this season, weather permitting. This will allow access to the full Whistler Blackcomb experience for guests with 5,280 vertical feet and over 6,000 acres of skiable terrain.
Since the beginning of last week, the all-natural ‘snow making machine’ of Mother Nature has not stopped running. Whistler weather made up for a slow start to the month of November, with amazing last week that met the Whistler Blackcomb’s average monthly snowfall for November and could soon reach its monthly average snowfall for December in the first week. With its record breaking snow base, guests visiting Whistler Blackcomb over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays will have an amazing time in North America’s top ski resort.
