Whistler hosts Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cup Nov. 23 and 24th
As if opening week at Whistler couldn’t get any better, the resort is also hosting the IBSF Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cup on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 23rd and 24th). Combine that with 100cm of fresh snow in the past week and opening week at Whistler-Blackcomb is off to an amazing start. Needless to say, for Americans visiting Whistler over their Thanksgiving holidays, they’re in for a treat with tons of fresh snow and world class athletic events.
Return of Canadian Pride…
The World Cup event will be hosted at Whistler’s Sliding Centre, on the southeast slope of Blackcomb Mountain. The Whistler Sliding Centre was originally built for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games and hosted numerous events including bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton competitions. The skeleton race will also feature the return of Gold Medal winner and Canadian athlete, Jon Montgomery, famous for his beer chugging celebration as he toured Whistler Village.
More Than Just Fast Athletes…
Spectators will be able to enjoy more than just high speed athletes, as the event will also feature on-course food service, entertainment, an incredible fireworks display, and of course, an on-site beer garden. With the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cup taking place on Friday November 23, 2012 and Saturday November 24, 2012, the Whistler-Blackcomb official opening should be a real hit for all to enjoy.
Why not take advantage of the fresh snow throughout the week to enjoy both Whistler Mountain’s early opening and Whistler-Blackcomb’s official opening. Be sure to check out the latest Whistler accommodation and vacation rental deals for your entire family to enjoy.
