What Is The Closest Airport to Whistler?
Whistler is one of British Columbia’s premier ski destinations and the closest airport that is available for the majority of out-of-town guests is Vancouver International Airport (YVR), which is 136 KM away! Unless you are flying from Vancouver, BC on a direct float plane charter, you will be out of luck. Whistler does not have an airport for direct commercial airline flights outside of Vancouver…So what is the closest Whistler, BC airport?
The nearest and only airport in Whistler is on water, known as Green Lake, where Whistler Air (operated by Harbour Air) flies in and out of. However, Whistler Air only flies to Whistler in the summer from approximately May – September.
Are You A Local Vancouverite?
If you live in Vancouver, you can fly with Whistler Air based out of Coal Harbour in Downtown Vancouver, BC. This scenic flight is one of the most underrated experiences and transportation modes to get to Whistler. It offers breathtaking views of the local mountains and Howe Sound inlet all the way up to Whistler until you land on the sheer glass-like runway of Green Lake.
I’m Flying Into YVR Airport.
To fly to Whistler, you want to make sure that you’re arriving in Vancouver at the Vancouver International Airport (YVR Airport). The Abbotsford Airport (YXX), which typically only handles local traffic from smaller Canadian and BC destinations, is an hour away from downtown Vancouver.
There are two options to fly to Whistler on Whistler Air:
- For Groups of 6-12 people, fly out of Vancouver International Airport on their charter service.
- For small families, couples, or individuals, fly out of Vancouver’s Harbour Water Airport in Coal Harbour
To get to Whistler Air from the Vancouver International Airport, you can either take a $50 taxi ride downtown or hop on the convenient Canada Line Station that takes you almost to its doorstep for $10.
