GranFondo Whistler Grows to Add New 152 km Route – The Forte
The fifth annual GranFondo takes place on September 6, 2014. Literally translated to “big ride” in Italian, these cycling events are typically 100 km or more, and are open to all adults in every skill level. RBC GranFondo Whistler was created as a legacy to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games and has attracted crowds by the thousands to Whistler where the event culminates. The cyclists participating in GranFondo Whistler will be alotted their own car free lane beginning at Stanley Park in Vancouver, along the Sea to Sky highway and all the way to Whistler Village.
The Forte, Newest Addition to GranFondo Whistler
To celebrate its fifth anniversary, this highly popular Whistler summer event will include a new 152 km GranFondo Forte. This route will involve the additional challenge of riding up to the summit of Cypress Mountain. There are only 500 spots available for this inaugural route, so participants are encouraged to register now to get a coveted spot. Riders taking on the challenge of the Forte will get a headstart of 1 hour, and will meet the GranFondo and Medio participants along the scenic Sea to Sky highway.
Whether you’re not quite ready for the big leap, or would like to compete for the combined prize purse of nearly $24,000, there is a GranFondo Whistler route suited for your skill level.
