Nearly 10 years after Hawaiians started to flock to the Big White, the ski resort has announced plans to host a Hawaiian themed week in March. Dating back to 2002, the days when Vancouver-based Harmony Airlines flew direct flights from Honolulu to Kelowna, Hawaiians have been flocking to the popular powder ski resort. Even after the direct route was cancelled when Harmony Airlines was forced to shut down, the loyal flying Hawaiian’s have continued to bring their surfing skills to the powder skill hills of Big White.
With a small, but extremely loyal and passionate group of Hawaiian families who own property in Big White, the resort sees about an influx of 400 to 500 Hawaiians in March. Some families have also been known to bring 200 pounds of seafood for cookouts, as well as chocolate and other Hawaiian delicacies. In appreciation of the islanders’ loyal and fun-loving spirit that changes the resorts atmosphere each March, the team at Big White is throwing an annual Hawaiian week-long festival. This year’s Hawaiian Week runs at Big White Ski Resort from March 20-27th with activities happening every day!
