BC Family Day Offers Residents Half-Price Lift Tickets at Whistler and Other Ski Resorts

British Columbia’s first provincial Family Day statutory holiday is Feb. 11th and local residents of B.C get to ski several of the provinces major ski resorts including, Whistler, Sun Peaks, and Big White for 50 per cent off. In conjunction with Canada West Ski Areas Association (CSWAA), 20 of British Columbia’s ski resorts are offering residents half-price lift tickets on Feb. 11th to celebrate and encourage BC family day trips or vacations to many of the local mountains. In Whistler, many of the tourist attractions are looking to capitalize on more than just family vacations, but also the influx of family day trips as Whistler Olympic Park and Lost Lake Cross Country will also be participating, along with Whistler Blackcomb, in the provinces first ever Family Day Holiday.

That means for one day only, on February 11th, the ski and snowshoe day pass will be 50 per cent off. The new Family Day in BC is expected to benefit the province’s economy significantly with families looking to plan trips around the province, including trips to ski resorts at Whistler Blackcomb, Sun Peaks, or Big White Ski Resort.

Family Day Skiing in Whistler BlackcombBritish Columbia’s first Family Day was originally planned to be on Monday, February 18 until several groups lobbied to move Family day from the third to the second Monday of February. The reason for the move was to remove pressures on the ski resorts and other travel services with it being Presidents’ Day long weekend and other Canadian provinces also having Family Day on the third Monday. But a public poll, commissioned by Premier Christy Clark and the B.C. Government, indicated that it was a near 50-50 split with 51.8 per cent of the population choosing February 11th as the preferred date for Family Day in BC.

At Big White Ski Resort, Family Day is proving to be so popular that they may have to hire an additional 200 people to handle the increased business over the weekend, including cooks to ski instructors.
