BC’s first Family Day is a week away and we thought we’d look into 6 Whistler family activities for the BC Family Day long-weekend that lets you enjoy the other adventures that Whistler has to offer other than skiing. While we love Whistler Blackcomb, since the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the Whistler resort has received the benefits of legacies left behind for people of all ages to enjoy, and especially families.
The winter activities in Whistler now encompass a full selection of outdoor adventures to family day activities. In fact, there are so many family ski activities at the Whistler Olympic Park alone that we had to split this post up into a two-part series!
Today, we’re concentrating on the numerous activities that kids and parents can enjoy all around Whistler that don’t involve skiing. And there are plenty of non-skiing activities in Whistler!
Winter Activities for a Family Vacation in Whistler.
Located in the Base 2 Zone of Blackcomb Mountain, the Whistler Tube Park is a blast from the past for any parent and is an absolute blast for kids of any age. A favourite activity for any family vacation in Whistler, the tube park allows parents the joy of being a kid for a day as they fly down the mountain with the kids chain-linked in tow. With the stresses of work, this is a perfect way to enjoy a stress-free family day in Whistler. Take a FREE ride up from Whistler Village on the Exaclibur Gondola to Base 2 and enjoy a day thru the eyes of your kids.

- Tickets must be purchased a minimum of 3 days in advance of the start date.
- Note: Children must be at least 3 years of age and a minimum height of 36″ or 91cm tall to tube.
On Sunday night, take your kids over to Skiers Plaza in Whistler Village and watch the thrilling the performance of Whistler’s best skiers, including members of Whistler Blackcomb’s Ski School, launching thru the air and ring of fire. This spectacular event happens every Sunday night at 6:30pm and is one of the best free live entertainment highlights for any family vacation, especially for the kids. Who wouldn’t want to spend a Sunday night watching some of the best skiers and riders jump thru and alongside a thrilling display of light and fire?!

Skiers Plaza: Whistler Village base between Whistler & Blackcomb Gondolas.
On the north side of Whistler Village, families can enjoy an outdoor skating session with their kids amongst the shiny lights of the Whistler Olympic Plaza. A favourite past time for many, the outdoor skating rink opened in December 2011 before a new permanent one was constructed in Whistler’s Olympic Plaza for 2012 that allow you and your kids to enjoy a breath of fresh air amongst a beautiful mountain setting in Whistler that is surrounded with the Olympic rings and festive shiny lights.

Sunday-Monday: 11am to 4pm and 6pm to 9pm.

For some families, they’re not interested in skiing, but they still want to explore the sights and views of Whistler’s amazing winter setting. Well, there is no better way to do this than to buy a sightseeing lift ticket and hop on Whistler Blackcomb’s Peak 2 Peak gondola. The world’s longest free span between ropeway tours and the only mountain resort to have a gondola connect two side-by-side mountains. At 3 km in length, the Peak 2 Peak gondola has become a favourite with families and tourists from all over the world.
